Gaza situation beyond words, violates global laws: UN Chief Guterres

"The situation of Palestinians in Gaza is indescribable and inhumane," Guterres declared

NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has voiced grave concern over the intensifying Israeli military assault on Gaza, condemning the worsening humanitarian crisis as “beyond words” and “inhumane.”

Speaking amid reports of increasing casualties and destruction, Guterres expressed deep alarm at the conditions faced by Palestinian civilians in the besieged enclave.

“The situation of Palestinians in Gaza is indescribable and inhumane,” Guterres declared, adding that the ongoing blockade and starvation tactics employed by Israel amount to a blatant violation of international law. He emphasized that such measures not only deepen the suffering but also mock global legal norms and humanitarian principles.

In a strong message to Israeli authorities, the UN chief demanded an immediate end to the blockade that has severely restricted the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. “I call on Israel to lift the blockade now,” he urged, highlighting the dire need for food, medicine, and other essential supplies for the civilian population trapped in the war zone.

Guterres also denounced the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, stating unequivocally that he rejects any such attempts. “I categorically reject the forced displacement and eviction of Palestinians from Gaza,” he affirmed.

His remarks come at a time of heightened global scrutiny over the Israeli campaign in Gaza, as international organisations and humanitarian groups continue to raise the alarm over what they describe as war crimes and collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
