Gavin Newsom Warns Of Worst-Case Iran Drone Attack Scenario In California
California stays alert after FBI warns Iran may try drone attacks following recent US and Israel military strikes.
Gavin Newsom has responded after the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned that Iran could carry out drone attacks in California.
The warning comes after recent joint military strikes by the United States and Israel. Officials fear Iran might try to respond to those attacks.
Newsom said state authorities already know about the possible threat. He explained that California officials are working closely with federal and local law enforcement. They are sharing information and staying alert in case anything happens.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the 58 year old governor said the state must stay ready for the worst. He said the goal right now is to stay prepared and protect people if the situation changes.
Newsom also spoke about Donald Trump. He asked the US president to address the nation and clearly explain the situation. Newsom said people deserve to know what is happening and what the final goal of the conflict is.
At the same time, he said there is no sign of an immediate attack on California. Officials are watching the situation closely and staying in contact with security agencies.
The warning from the FBI came after the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets inside Iran. Reports say more than 1,000 people have been killed in the fighting so far. Among them were more than 160 children who died in an alleged American airstrike on a girls school in the city of Minab.
The bombing also resulted in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Since then, Iran has launched retaliatory missile strikes against Israel and American bases in the Middle East; however, it hasn’t yet directly attacked the American mainland.
US Congress Briefing Reveals Massive US Spending During Iran War
Earlier, a mysterious drone was detected flying near the Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, prompting officials to raise the security threat level to “Charlie”. Further details about the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have been kept under wraps.
The FBI warning stated that Iran aspired to carry out such a counterstrike, not that it had the capability to do so.
