Gas theft crackdown: 124 connections disconnected, RS 7.4 million in fines imposed

LAHORE: In a significant stride towards curbing gas theft, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has undertaken a rigorous crackdown in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, resulting in the disconnection of 124 illegal gas connections. The operation, aimed at addressing the rampant issue of gas pilferage, has also led to the processing of 349 under billing cases.
In Lahore, the regional team of SNGPL achieved noteworthy success by disconnecting 17 connections engaged in illegal gas usage and an additional 15 for the use of compressors. Furthermore, the team processed three under billing cases, imposing fines totaling Rs 0.56 million against gas theft and under billing activities.
The regional team in Rawalpindi contributed to the crackdown by disconnecting two connections involved in the illegal use of gas. In Islamabad, three connections were also disconnected for unauthorized gas usage. Meanwhile, Multan witnessed the disconnection of five illegal gas connections, with 136 under billing cases processed, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 0.226 million.
Sheikhupura’s team disconnected an impressive 37 connections engaged in illegal gas use, processing 41 under billing cases and imposing fines totaling Rs 5.378 million against gas pilferers. Sargodha saw the disconnection of three connections involved in the use of compressors.
In Peshawar and Karak, SNGPL took action by disconnecting 36 connections engaged in the direct and illegal use of gas, resulting in fines totaling Rs 0.6793 million. Notably, the team lodged one FIR against gas pilferers. In Mardan, 30 under billing cases were processed, and a fine of Rs 0.05 million was imposed against gas pilferers.
Bahawalpur’s team disconnected one connection involved in illegal gas use, processing 133 under billing cases and imposing a fine of Rs 0.1321 million against gas theft and under billing activities.
