ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The federal government has announced major relief for gas consumers, confirming that gas prices will remain unchanged for the next six months on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The announcement was made during the 12th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum, chaired by Syed Mustafa Mehmood. Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik briefed the committee on key developments in the gas and LNG sectors.
The minister informed lawmakers that Pakistan has successfully concluded negotiations with Qatar to divert surplus LNG cargoes to the international market while fully honoring contractual commitments. He praised Qatar as a dependable supplier that stood by Pakistan when several global suppliers failed to meet obligations, adding that a mutually acceptable solution had been reached regarding excess LNG volumes.
Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that gas tariffs will remain unchanged for all consumer categories for the remaining six months of the current fiscal year, providing significant relief to households and businesses. He also noted that the flow of circular debt in the gas sector has been effectively controlled, with no fresh accumulation, marking a key achievement of ongoing reforms.

The committee was informed that domestic gas supply has improved nationwide, with no local gas fields currently under curtailment. Gas supply to the power sector is being maintained beyond IGCEP demand to help prevent load shedding.
Managing Directors of the Sui gas companies briefed the committee on operational improvements. SNGPL reported a reduction in unaccounted-for gas (UFG) losses from 9% to 5%, while SSGC reduced losses from 17% to 10%.
Members were also told that IoT-based monitoring systems, including Town Border Stations, have been installed at network endpoints to enable real-time pressure monitoring and automatic alerts. Additionally, gas supply hours have been extended from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm during winter to maximize public relief.
The chairman and members of the standing committee appreciated the progress achieved through governance reforms, efficiency measures, and consumer-focused policies in the petroleum and gas sector.
