Gary Kirsten Highlights Challenges During Pakistan Coaching Stint
Kirsten Cites Interference as Key Challenge in Pakistan Role
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Former Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten has revealed that his short tenure with the national team was complicated by significant external interference and pressure. In a recent interview, he said that constant noise from outside the dressing room made it difficult for a coach to function effectively and implement a clear strategy.
Kirsten noted that the team environment often became unstable, particularly after poor performances, which triggered immediate criticism and strict reactions. According to him, such conditions made it challenging to maintain consistency and long-term planning.

He emphasized that removing or restricting a coach after setbacks may seem like a quick solution, but it rarely produces lasting results. “If a coach is given responsibility, he should also be given the freedom to execute his plans,” he stated.
Despite these concerns, Kirsten praised Pakistani players for their professionalism and talent, describing his experience as largely positive. He added that although there were occasional language barriers, the game of cricket itself helped bridge communication gaps and build understanding within the team.
