Faisalabad: (Web Desk) – The treatment of children suffering from Thalassemia has become more expensive following the recent surge in petroleum prices, according to reports.
Speaking on the issue, Saima, a focal person of the Ali Zaib Foundation, highlighted the immediate impact on healthcare costs. She explained that the price of a blood bag, previously available at Rs350, has risen to Rs400, and in some cases even reached Rs450 after the sudden increase.
She noted that although the price hike was announced late at night, its effects were felt instantly the next morning when blood banks raised their rates. The increase has added further financial strain on families already struggling to manage long-term treatment for thalassemia patients.

Earlier, on April 2, the government significantly increased fuel prices across the country. Petrol prices surged by Rs137 per litre, reaching Rs458.40, while diesel saw an even steeper rise of Rs184, pushing its price to Rs520.34 per litre.
Experts warn that such an unprecedented hike in fuel costs is likely to trigger a ripple effect on the overall cost of living. Higher transportation expenses are expected to drive up the prices of essential goods and medical services, placing additional pressure on households—particularly those dealing with chronic illnesses like thalassemia.
