FPCCI to Challenge IPP Contracts in Supreme Court: Dr. Gohar Ijaz
Islamabad: FPCCI to Challenge IPP Contracts in Supreme Court: Dr. Gohar Ijaz, Former Caretaker Commerce Minister Dr. Gohar Ijaz has announced that the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) will seek Supreme Court intervention over controversial Independent Power Producer (IPP) contracts.
In a tweet on X, Dr. Ijaz revealed that the FPCCI plans to formally petition the Supreme Court to address what he describes as an “intolerable situation” affecting the basic rights of every Pakistani. He criticized the IPP contracts for forcing Pakistan to pay billions for electricity that isn’t being generated, leading to soaring energy costs and business bankruptcies.
Dr. Ijaz highlighted a 2020 report by former Interim Energy Minister Muhammad Ali, which exposed losses in the hundreds of billions due to governmental and IPP failures. He questioned why the report’s recommendations, including a forensic audit, were not acted upon.

He emphasized that the government must choose between protecting the interests of 240 million Pakistanis or continuing to guarantee profits for a select few. Dr. Ijaz warned against repeating past mistakes driven by new “investors” seeking profits without delivering value.
