Former Test Cricketer Tanveer Ahmed Comments on Pakistan Cricket Performance
On Thursday, former Test cricketer Tanveer Ahmed praised Babar Azam for his batting skills and expressed hope that the 29-year-old will soon regain his form.
In a discussion on his YouTube channel, Ahmed reflected on Pakistan’s disappointing performance against Bangladesh in their first red-ball match of the season. He remarked, “No one expected such a poor performance from Pakistan against a team like Bangladesh.”

Ahmed noted past mistakes and mentioned that Mir Hamza and Abrar Ahmed have been reinstated after previous errors. He suggested that Mohammed Ali might be dropped, with Abrar Ahmed potentially taking his place.
Regarding Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, Ahmed questioned the decision to drop him, asking, “Why was Shaheen Shah Afridi left out when none of the other bowlers performed well?” He speculated whether Afridi’s exclusion was due to workload or attitude and advised Afridi to focus solely on his cricket performance rather than other concerns.
Ahmed emphasized that if players, including Babar Azam, fail to perform in upcoming series against Bangladesh and England, they should face similar consequences. He argued that underperforming senior players should be replaced by younger talent.

Regarding today’s second Test match, Ahmed remarked: “Pakistan will undoubtedly face significant pressure at the start, given their loss in the first match. However, I still believe Pakistan is a stronger team compared to Bangladesh.”
On the topic of Babar Azam’s recent drop in Test rankings, Tanveer commented: “When Babar was performing well, many were vocal about his high ranking. Now that his rankings have slipped, those same critics are still talking about it. Why focus on his rankings now?”
Tanveer added, “There’s no need to keep discussing Babar’s rankings. It would be better to stay quiet.”
Acknowledging Azam’s batting ability, Ahmed noted: “I still believe Babar Azam is the kind of player who can bounce back. His skill is evident, and a single strong performance could restore his confidence.”
Ahmed also reflected on Azam’s 2023 World Cup performance, saying, “The bowlers couldn’t dismiss him easily, but he often got out due to his own errors. Unfortunately, this trend has continued.”
Despite this, Ahmed expressed hope that Azam will regain his form and deliver the solid performances that fans expect.
