Former District Election Commissioner Arrested for Corruption and Human Smuggling

In a separate operation, FIA Faisalabad arrested a proclaimed offender, Gul Bahar Abbas, during a raid in Talagang, Chakwal.

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sargodha Circle has arrested former District Election Commissioner of Khushab, Asghar Ali Daha, on charges of corruption and human smuggling, according to an FIA spokesperson.

Investigations revealed that the accused facilitated the illegal foreign travel of a subordinate officer and concealed the officer’s unauthorized absence of over seven months from higher authorities.

During this period, the subordinate continued receiving salary, overtime allowances, and honorariums, allegedly with Asghar Ali Daha’s help—causing a loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer. The accused has been taken into custody and an investigation is underway.

In a separate operation, FIA Faisalabad arrested a proclaimed offender, Gul Bahar Abbas, during a raid in Talagang, Chakwal.

The spokesperson stated that Abbas defrauded a citizen of Rs. 600,000 under the pretense of sending him to the United Arab Emirates for employment. Further legal action is being pursued.
