Moscow_ First time in history today at 8:00 pm Moscow time and 10:00 pm Pakistan time, there is plan to display Pakistani and Russian flags on famous book buildings of New Arbat near Red Square. I am sharing the history of these buildings for ready refrence please
Book-houses on the south side of Novy Arbat (New Arbat) are one of the most famous buildings in Moscow. They were built back in 1960s and displayed 4 letters – “USSR”. This view became iconic in Soviet period and became one of the symbols of the Soviet capital.

The buildings housed eight ministries in the Soviet period.
The stree Novy Arbat, in Soviet period, was called Kilinin Prospek, in the memory of a Soviet politician and Russian Old Bolshevik revolutionary Mikhail Kalinin, however, after the collapse of the USSR, in 1990s, the street was renamed as New Arbat as it was located next to the Old Arbat – a historic street 800 metres west of the walls of the Moscow Kremlin.
The Arbat is one of the oldest surviving streets in Moscow, it is mentioned in document from 1493.
Probably the most widespread hypothesis states that the name comes from the Arabic word أرباض arbāḍ, meaning “suburb” or “outskirts”. This fits with the fact that from the 16th century the area surrounding the Arbat did form the outer district of the city, the Kremlin being the city centre. Now, it is is a pedestrian street, one of the tourist attractions in Moscow.
