Fire Erupts in Karachi’s Saddar, Rescue Teams Battle Blaze for Hours

A fire broke out this morning at the Nauman Shopping Center in Karachi’s Saddar area, while in the same vicinity, KMC officials have been accused of demanding bribes from shopkeepers in Empress Market. When the shopkeepers refused to pay, the officials initiated an anti-encroachment operation, prompting protests.

Reports indicate that the fire at Nauman Shopping Center has been burning for over three hours and is still not under control. Rescue teams are actively working to extinguish the flames.

Meanwhile, shopkeepers in Empress Market have labeled the KMC’s anti-encroachment drive as an act of retaliation. They claim that KMC personnel used encroachment as a pretext to harass them after they refused to pay bribes. This led to protests, with shopkeepers blocking the roads in response.

Protesters alleged that the DMC encroachment team demanded bribes from shop owners and targeted those who refused. They also claimed that an operation was carried out on a local hotel earlier in the day.
