Financial Irregularities Rock Lyari University During Vice-Chancellor Absence
The committee’s report highlights egregious billing discrepancies, where prices for exam copies far exceeded market rates.
KARACHI: Lyari University finds itself embroiled in controversy as financial irregularities come to light during the prolonged absence of a permanent Vice-Chancellor. Reports reveal substantial discrepancies in procurement practices, particularly concerning the purchase of examination copies, leading to financial losses amounting to millions.
Acting upon findings from an audit committee, led by Acting Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amjad Siraj, it was discovered that procurement protocols were bypassed, with orders placed at inflated prices without competitive tenders. Shockingly, purchases from multiple vendors, including one operating under the guise of a construction company, were executed without due process, exacerbating financial mismanagement.
The committee’s report highlights egregious billing discrepancies, where prices for exam copies far exceeded market rates. For instance, invoices indicate overbilling of Rs. 5.974 million for various copy types, underscoring severe financial mismanagement within university departments.
