Aurangzeb Begins Official Meetings in Washington D.C.

Washington D.C.— Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has begun his official engagements in Washington D.C., where he is attending the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).

The Finance Minister held a series of important meetings on the first day of his visit, starting with Mr. Riccardo Puliti, Regional Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the Middle East, Central Asia, Türkiye, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

During the meeting, Senator Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators and appreciated IFC’s strong partnership with the country. He lauded IFC’s efforts in boosting private sector investment through multi-billion-dollar projects under the 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF). The Minister also emphasized the importance of achieving early financial closure of IFC’s flagship Reko Diq project and welcomed the establishment of IFC’s new regional office in Islamabad.

Later, Senator Aurangzeb met with Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). He expressed gratitude for the Bank’s longstanding support and reviewed the current portfolio of IsDB-funded projects in Pakistan.

The Finance Minister particularly thanked the IsDB for approving financing for two sections of the M-6 Motorway and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continued cooperation in areas such as polio eradication and the oil financing facility. Both sides agreed on the need to develop a new Country Engagement Framework (CEF) to further strengthen Pakistan-IsDB collaboration.
