Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur announced his ambitious plan of Harry Potter franchise

Mumbai: (Web Desk) Renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has announced his ambitious plans to create an Indian version of the Harry Potter franchise. During an interview the filmmaker said that people in India are “used to things that are otherworldly.”

According to the source, Kapur highlighted the success of Slumdog Millionaire during an interview, which grossed around $400 million worldwide, but was not considered an Indian film. Kapur, who recently directed the romantic-comedy “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” expressed his desire to create an Indian film that resonates with the local audience. This film is starring Shabana Azmi, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Shazad Latif, Sajal Aly, Oliver Chris, Asim Chaudhry, Jeff Mirza, Alice Orr-Ewing, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

As per details he said that his upcoming project would be a film franchise that is similar to Harry Potter in terms of genre and theme. That genre of Harry Potter because I think in India, with the market we have, we are so used to things that are otherworldly. We’ve grown up with those kinds of stories. I am now developing and probably will make a film franchise like Harry Potter that comes out of India and not the West.”

Furthermore the director believes that India’s rich history of fantastical stories has prepared its audience for such a venture. He added that the film industry in India is accustomed to creating otherworldly experiences and has a large market that can support a project like this.

Meanwhile in the same interview, Kapur discussed his passion project, Paani, which he wanted to be produced as an Indian film. However, he initially considered setting it in Mexico City before ultimately deciding to make it in India. The director also revealed that he lost several years of his life contemplating the project’s direction.

Moreover with Kapur’s proven track record of creating critically acclaimed movies like Elizabeth and Bandit Queen, there are a lot of anticipation surrounding his new project. Fans can’t wait to see what the director has in store for the Indian film industry.
