Khadija Shah showed up at the Iqbal Town police station of CIA.

Earlier, a purported audio leak suggested that the acclaimed fashion designer Khadija Shah – who is a staunch supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – had decided to surrender herself to the police.

The fashion maven was ‘on the run’ since the police launched a crackdown on the PTI activists following riots and vandalism on May 9.

The house was attacked on May 9 when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stormed and burned it down following party chairman Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

In an over 16 minutes-long audio message released recently, Shah admitted that she was a PTI supporter and was part of the protest outside the Lahore Corps Commander’s House but denied committing any wrongdoing, including inciting people to violence.

Shah is the daughter of Dr Salman Shah who was a member of former president Parvez Musharraf’s finance team and had also served as an adviser in the Punjab government during the Usman Buzdar government.

She is also the granddaughter of a former army chief.

Punjab Interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi had last week announced that the women involved in the May 9 attacks on the military installations would be arrested at all costs.

The army and the federal government have also vowed that all miscreants involved in the attacks on military installations would be tried under the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act.

Following the attacks, thousands of PTI workers have been rounded up across the country, with several leaders also parting ways with the party over the May 9 mayhem.

She is the founder of famous women’s clothing brands “Elan,” and “Zaha.”

Since the Jinnah House attack and nomination in the first information report (FIR), she had gone into hiding to avert arrest.

Some videos also surfaced on the social media platforms which allegedly showed her fleeing a site where the police raid was expected.

Earlier,

Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Aun Chaudhry Tuesday categorically rejected a report circulating in the media claiming that he made unsuccessful efforts to intervene with the police on behalf of Khadija Shah, the “prime suspect” of the attack on Corps Commander House (Jinnah House) in Lahore Cantt on May 9.

Terming the media reports about his efforts for securing relief for Shah — the granddaughter of a former army chief — as baseless, Chaudhry said that she had never visited the house of Jahangir Khan Tareen’s daughter.

After the May 9 riots, Punjab police launched a massive operation, detaining hundreds of PTI activists suspected of involvement in the attacks on defence installations.

However, the search for Shah remains ongoing as she continues to evade arrest, defying the army’s stern orders of “no mercy” towards anyone connected to such offences.

Shah continues to elude authorities, even as her husband, Jehanzeb Amin, has been taken into police custody. In a similar vein, Salman Shah, the former finance minister, was briefly arrested before being freed.

According to media reports, acting on a tip-off from Jehanzeb, the police conducted a raid on an apartment in Gulberg, but Shah managed to escape just minutes before the raiding party’s arrival. Leaked CCTV footage captured her fleeing the building through the basement parking area.

Interestingly, the apartment where she had been hiding reportedly belongs to Mehar Tareen, the daughter of Jehangir Tareen, and her husband, Umar Sheikh. Although present during the raid, the couple’s attempt to assist Shah proved futile.

“Action should be taken against those involved in May 9 incidents,” he added.

Apart from the Tareen family, other influential individuals have also been approached in an endeavour to secure relief for Shah.

Among them is Chaudhry Shujaat Husain, who was a witness in Shah’s nikah. However, after he discovered that the army maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards offenders, treating all individuals equally without discrimination, read the report.
