Federal Info Minister Tarar Criticizes PTI’s Inaction on Security in KP

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Information Minister, Atta Tarar, has heavily criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for its failure to address security concerns in the province, particularly in the district of Kurram. Tarar questioned the provincial government’s actions during a critical time when Kurram needed the most attention.

In his statement, Tarar pointed out that while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had a close relationship with the Taliban, it failed to address the consequences of that alliance. He emphasized that PTI’s inaction in ensuring peace and order in KP during its governance was a major oversight.

He also raised concerns over the province’s inability to take adequate steps in maintaining law and order, particularly in contrast to Punjab, where the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) was provided training by the military. He asked, “Why didn’t the KP government take similar steps to train its forces?”

Tarar criticized PTI for not prioritizing the resolution of public issues in KP, stating, “Talking and showcasing strength does not fill the people’s stomachs.” He pointed out that despite being allocated similar funds as other provinces, KP faced a significant deficit of 152 billion rupees, underscoring the financial mismanagement under the previous administration.

Moreover, discussions between the government and the Grand Peace Jirga regarding maintaining security in Kurram are still ongoing, with no agreements finalized yet. One party has requested an extension until Tuesday to sign the agreement.
