Federal Info Minister Ata Tarar Criticizes PTI Violent Protests, Praises Peaceful Approach of KP CM

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Ataullah Tarar has expressed his disapproval of violent protests of PTI, referencing the events of November 26 and May 9. He stated that instead of resorting to arson and chaos, protesters could have chosen a peaceful approach, symbolized by a simple “Ooo Ooo” chant.

Tarar was responding to a statement made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who recently highlighted a peaceful form of protest. Tarar praised Gandapur for adopting a non-violent and respectful approach to public dissent, which he said was the right way to demonstrate in a civilized society.

The federal minister remarked that it would have been preferable if, instead of violence and destruction on November 26 and May 9, protestors had simply protested with chants of “Ooo Ooo.” He pointed out that such methods would have been more aligned with peaceful activism, contrasting it with the disruptive and violent tactics often associated with the opposition.

In his remarks, Tarar further emphasized that the nation was well aware of the tendencies of certain groups to incite chaos, and that the public was looking for more responsible forms of protest.

Meanwhile, during a media interaction in Peshawar, Ali Amin Gandapur stressed that it was his responsibility to allocate 50 crore rupees to the University of Peshawar. He suggested that if the funds were not provided, he would be open to facing protests, but again, in a peaceful manner, as he encouraged people to express dissatisfaction using chants like “Ooo Ooo” rather than resorting to violent actions.

The exchange highlights the ongoing debate in Pakistan regarding the appropriate methods of protest, with leaders on both sides calling for more peaceful demonstrations.
