Adjustments come as govt seeks to improve the sustainability of the power sector
Islamabad: The federal government has announced new fixed charges for electricity consumers, impacting both domestic and commercial users starting July 2024.
Domestic consumers will now face fixed charges of up to Rs 1,000, marking a significant change as these charges were previously non-existent.
For households consuming between 301 to 400 units per month, the fixed charge will rise by Rs 200. Those using between 401 to 500 units will see an increase of Rs 400, while consumption of 501 to 600 units will incur a fixed charge of Rs 600. For usage exceeding 700 units, a charge of Rs 1,000 will apply.
In addition to residential changes, fixed charges for industrial consumers will jump by 184%, while commercial electricity users will experience a 150% increase.

Agricultural tube wells will also see their fixed charges double, going from Rs 200 to Rs 400, while industrial monthly charges will rise from Rs 440 to Rs 1,250, and commercial charges will increase from Rs 500 to Rs 1,250.
These adjustments come as the government seeks to manage rising energy costs and improve the sustainability of the power sector, but they are likely to place additional financial strain on consumers.
