Federal cabinet approves Gwadar–Oman ferry service
The federal cabinet has approved the launch of a Gwadar–Oman ferry service, marking a major step toward stronger maritime connectivity with the Gulf region.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry confirmed that the service will begin soon following formal arrangements between Pakistan and Oman.
According to Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Pakistan and Oman will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the ferry link. The agreement will formalize the operational framework and pave the way for the launch of the new route.
An Omani delegation is expected to visit Pakistan to finalize all arrangements related to the service.
Ferry route expected to boost trade and investment
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the new ferry corridor is expected to increase trade volume and attract fresh investment, benefiting both Pakistan and Oman. Enhanced maritime linkage is also likely to support broader economic activity through improved logistics and reduced travel times.
The federal minister noted that the ferry service will make travel easier for Pakistani expatriates, particularly those living in Oman and nearby Gulf countries. The route is designed to offer a cost-effective and convenient option for cross-border movement.
Wider regional access to Central Asian markets
Chaudhry added that countries across the region will gain enhanced access to Central Asian markets through the improved connectivity provided by the ferry route. The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader vision of transforming Gwadar into a major trade gateway for the wider region.
