FBR Implements Regulatory Duties on Imported Goods, Including Medicinal Raw Materials

Specific items will see staged increases: levofloxacin, a third-generation antibiotic, will incur a 10% duty until December 31, 2024, rising to 20% from January 1, 2025.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced new regulatory duties on various imported items, including crucial raw materials for some medications.

Starting immediately, a 10% duty has been imposed on calcium, chloroform, and dioctyl terephthalate. Levofloxacin will face a 10% duty until December 31, which will increase to 20% from January 1, 2024.

Additionally, the FBR has set a 5% regulatory duty on seed grading, sorting, and cleaning machines, as well as vegetable drying machines and other machinery. Calcium carbide, chloroform, and dioctyl terephthalate will also be subject to a 10% duty.

Specific items will see staged increases: levofloxacin, a third-generation antibiotic, will incur a 10% duty until December 31, 2024, rising to 20% from January 1, 2025. Caffeine and its salts will follow the same schedule. Sodium carbonate’s duty has been reduced from 20% to 10%, while duties on chewing gum and chloroparaffin liquid are set at 10% until December 31, 2025. Polyurethanes will have a 5% duty until June 30, 2025, and polymers of vinyl chloride will face a 10% duty until December 31, 2024. Dia’s tubes and sleeves will have a 10% duty until June 30, 2025.

Furthermore, a 10% duty has been imposed on multiply and other similar items until December 31, 2024, and 15% on self-adhesive materials until June 30, 2025. Secondary quality iron flat rolled products will have a 10% duty until December 31, 2024, decreasing to 5% from January 1, 2025.

The government has also placed a 5% duty on cold-rolled steel strips with a thickness of 0.5 mm to 100 mm, iron flat rolled products less than 600 mm thick, and non-alloy steel products until December 31, 2024. Wire over 3 mm, grill, netting, fencing, ball bearings, cone tapered roller assemblies, and tabbed roller bearings will have a 10% duty until June 30, 2025. Seed grading, sorting, and cleaning machines, vegetable drying machines, and other machinery will face a 5% regulatory duty.
