Fazlur Rehman Rejects Institution Bulldozing, Supports Rule of Law

Multan-(Adnan Quraishi)-JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed concerns over the government’s proposed constitutional amendment, stating that while his party agrees with the establishment of a constitutional court, they see an “ill intention” behind the move. Fazl believes the government is trying to use the amendment for personal benefit and to defeat the opposition ¹.

During a press conference in Multan, Fazl reiterated his concerns about the amendment, specifically articles 8 and 199, which he claims aim to infringe upon basic rights and weaken court powers. He criticized the government for hastily passing bills without proper preparation and warned that disrupting the balance of power among institutions could lead to the collapse of the system.

Fazl emphasized the importance of Parliament’s role in constitutional and legislative development, stressing that JUI-F won’t accept constraints on this process. He also expressed concerns about the military’s expanding role and the potential disruption of the judicial system through changes in judge appointments and transfers.

The JUI-F chief has rejected the proposed constitutional amendments and instead suggested focusing on reforms. He mentioned an agreement with Bilawal to create a joint draft, which their lawyers are currently working on.
