Fazlur Rehman Questions PTI’s U-Turn on Constitutional Amendment
The JUI-F leader emphasized that the amendment is now being deliberately portrayed as controversial and politicized.
PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed surprise over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) withdrawal of support for the 26th Constitutional Amendment, stating that their reversal is beyond comprehension.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Fazlur Rehman announced that the Mufti Mahmood Conference will be held on October 16 in Dera Ismail Khan. He also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, claiming that over 70,000 innocent people have been martyred. He said the upcoming “Peace March” will also include strong condemnation of Israel, with “Down with Israel” slogans being part of the demonstration.
Commenting on the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Fazl said, “The amendment spans 27 pages and was well-received by the Senate, National Assembly, and the government. Yet now, PTI has suddenly distanced itself from it. I fail to understand how and why.”

He added, “If someone challenges the amendment in court, it is their right. But PTI’s current stance — claiming solidarity with judges — raises questions, especially when they were previously on board.”
The JUI-F leader emphasized that the amendment is now being deliberately portrayed as controversial and politicized. He reiterated his openness to dialogue, stating, “If PTI invites us to discuss the matter, we are willing to sit with them.”
Fazlur Rehman called for realistic and constructive dialogue to address ongoing political and constitutional issues in the country.
