Experts Share Simple Ways to Manage Anger and Anxiety

According to Dr. Batool, anger reduces the body’s “happy hormones” while increasing stress-related hormones

ISLAMABAD: In today’s fast-paced world, anger and anxiety have become common experiences for many people. Experts say that rising economic pressure, social expectations, domestic issues, and work-related stress are major factors contributing to these emotional challenges.

Psychologist Dr. Batool explained the difference between anger and anxiety, offering simple home remedies to manage both. She noted that anger is a natural emotional response, often triggered during arguments or when dealing with children, but if not controlled, it can develop into stress.

According to Dr. Batool, anger reduces the body’s “happy hormones” while increasing stress-related hormones. To manage anger, she suggested drinking a glass of water and eating a fruit such as a banana or apple with a pinch of salt or lemon juice, as bananas work fastest. If fruit isn’t available, mixing a pinch of baking soda in water can also help.

Unchecked anger can lead to anxiety, affecting both mental and physical health. Dr. Batool explained that increasing anxiety lowers dopamine levels and reduces about 70 percent of serotonin, the happiness hormone produced in the intestines.

To help manage anxiety, she recommended increasing the intake of omega-3 rich foods such as avocados, almonds, and fish. However, she emphasized that the most effective way to maintain mental health is to avoid taking on unnecessary stress.
