Experts Offer Simple Remedies to Manage Anger and Anxiety

KARACHI — Anger is a common human emotion, but when it becomes excessive, it can lead to anxiety, which is often the first stage of depression. Experts say the increasing cost of living, societal pressures to look perfect, domestic issues, and work-related challenges are major contributors to rising mental stress.

Mental stress remains a sensitive topic in today’s society, with many educated individuals hesitant to discuss it or seek help from psychologists. A private news channel is helping address this issue through informative programs.

At morning show, Dr. Batool explained the difference between anger and anxiety and shared simple home remedies to quickly relieve stress.

She said that anger is a natural response to situations like marital arguments or scolding children. Instead of letting anger build up, one can practice “Eat Your Stress” — consuming something simple to calm the mind.

Dr. Batool explained that anger reduces happiness hormones while stress-related hormones rise, creating a form of mental tension. She suggested drinking water immediately when feeling angry and eating a fruit such as an apple or banana with a pinch of salt or a bit of lemon to reduce anger. If fruits are not available, a pinch of sweet soda in a glass of water can also help calm the mind.

She warned that uncontrolled anger can escalate into anxiety. Anxiety disrupts digestion and depletes serotonin, a hormone responsible for happiness, which is largely produced in the intestines.

To manage anxiety, Dr. Batool recommended increasing Omega-3 intake, found in foods like avocado, almonds, and fish. She emphasized that preventing stress is a cost-effective way to maintain mental health.
