Ex-PM Imran Khan Endures Harsh Prison Conditions, Family Raises Alarm

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023

Islamabad – Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly been confined in harsh prison conditions for over two years, with his family describing his detention as a “death cell.”

Khan, the PTI chief, is facing multiple legal cases, ranging from attempted murder to blasphemy and terrorism charges. His sons claim that his imprisonment has worsened due to his outspoken criticism of the military, and they describe the conditions as “unimaginable.”

His son Kasim Khan stated that his father would never compromise in a way that leaves party members imprisoned, choosing instead to endure brutal conditions while pursuing his mission to fight corruption in Pakistan.

Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, added that he has been subjected to extreme isolation and psychological pressure, with family visits blocked for weeks.

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023, following a three-year sentence for illegally selling state gifts. He also faces multiple convictions, which he claims are politically motivated after being ousted from office in a 2022 parliamentary vote.

Family members expressed growing concern for his life, alleging that Khan has endured over two years of solitary confinement, limited access to clean water, and exposure to inmates with contagious diseases, while being cut off from almost all human contact.

Human rights groups and political observers have called for urgent attention to the former prime minister’s prison conditions, warning of serious risks to his health and wellbeing.
