Europe Must Secure Its Own Oil as Strait Crisis Deepens: Trump
Trump criticizes Europe over Iran conflict support
WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – Donald Trump has sharply criticised key European allies, including the United Kingdom and France, for refusing to support potential US and Israeli military action against Iran. Speaking on Truth Social, Trump warned that Washington may not come to their aid in future crises, suggesting that these nations must “learn how to fight for themselves.”
Trump singled out Britain, urging it to either purchase fuel from the US or secure supplies independently amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy shipments. He controversially added that countries facing shortages could “go to the Strait and just take it,” while noting that the US has ample oil reserves available for sale.
He also criticised France, alleging that Paris denied overflight permission for aircraft carrying military supplies to Israel, describing the country as “very unhelpful” and suggesting Washington would remember this stance.

Trump claimed that Iran had been “essentially decimated,” indicating that the most challenging phase of the conflict may have passed. His comments come amid heightened hostilities that have disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, where multiple vessels have reportedly been attacked.
Regional consequences are mounting. Gulf states have faced increased security threats, including missile and drone activity targeting strategic locations. A Kuwaiti oil tanker caught fire off Dubai’s coast but authorities confirmed there were no casualties or oil spills.
The Israel Defense Forces reported ongoing operations targeting Iranian infrastructure and intensified clashes with Iran-backed groups, including Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Despite US calls for support, European nations have remained cautious about direct involvement in the conflict, citing high-risk military engagement. Trump also questioned NATO’s effectiveness, suggesting the alliance failed to back the US at a critical moment.
As tensions rise, Washington has signalled potential further escalation. Trump warned the US could target Iran’s civilian energy infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, while still leaving diplomatic channels open for negotiation.
