Ethiopian Ambassador Meets Defence Secretary of Pakistan to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Ethiopian Envoy Highlights Reform, Growing Ties with Pakistan

RAWALPINDI- (By Aamer Rafique Butt)- In a significant development aimed at bolstering diplomatic ties, H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, called on Pakistan’s Defence Secretary, Lt. Gen (R) Muhammad Ali HI(M), in Rawalpindi to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

During the high-level meeting, both sides reviewed the current state of Ethiopia-Pakistan relations and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening collaboration across various sectors, particularly in defense and strategic affairs.

Ambassador Dr. Jemal highlighted the remarkable political, social, and legal reforms taking place in Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed. He pointed to the establishment of the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad and the recent launch of Ethiopian Airlines’ operations in Pakistan as key milestones contributing to the renewed momentum in bilateral engagement.

The Ambassador also emphasized Ethiopia’s pivotal regional role in promoting peace, security, and integration across East Africa and the Horn of Africa.

Commending Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reform initiatives, the Defence Secretary expressed appreciation for the country’s strides toward sustainable development. He reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to expanding relations with African nations, with a particular focus on deepening engagement with Ethiopia.

Lt. Gen (R) Muhammad Ali assured Ambassador Dr. Jemal of Pakistan’s full support in advancing mutual cooperation and fostering long-term strategic ties between the two nations.
