Lucknow – A shocking incident of caste-based violence has emerged from BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, where an elderly Dalit man was humiliated and physically assaulted by a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker in the Sheetal Temple locality of Lucknow. The incident has triggered nationwide outrage and condemnation from human rights defenders, Dalit groups, and political leaders.
According to reports by Kashmir Media Service, the victim, identified as Rampal Pasi, a frail and ailing elderly man, was drinking water near Purani Bazar when he accidentally spilled some on the ground. An RSS worker allegedly accused him of urinating and, in a disturbing act of degradation, forced him to lick the spill.
Eyewitnesses say the victim was subjected to physical violence and caste-based slurs during the attack, further compounding the humiliation and psychological trauma he endured.
Dalit rights activists and human rights organizations have condemned the incident, calling it a clear display of “caste arrogance and feudal mindset.” They emphasized that the assault was not just physical but an intentional attack on the dignity and humanity of a marginalized man.

Chandrashekhar Azad, Member of Parliament and president of the Azad Samaj Party and Bhim Army chief, described the incident as “a blot on humanity and an assault on the soul of the Constitution.” He called for the immediate arrest of the RSS-affiliated accused and demanded full protection for Rampal Pasi.
“Power has been exerted on the body, and the poison of casteism on the soul,” Azad said, urging the Uttar Pradesh government to take swift and uncompromising action.
Local residents have also expressed frustration, claiming that police initially refused to register the case, continuing a pattern of indifference and inaction in caste-related crimes unless public pressure forces them to respond.
As public anger grows, activists and civil society are calling for strict legal action against the perpetrator, accountability from law enforcement, and urgent measures to protect Dalit communities from recurring acts of caste-based violence.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the deep-rooted caste discrimination that still plagues many parts of India, and the urgent need for justice, reform, and social accountability.
