ECP warns of delay in election

ECP warns of delay in election.  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is mulling over a potential delay in elections in constituencies where candidates seek a switch in their allotted symbols, as per ECP spokesperson.

Candidates are altering symbols even after initial allocation, prompting the ECP to consider postponing polls due to the necessity of reprinting ballot papers.

“The ECP has initiated the publication and printing of ballot papers following symbol allotment,” the spokesperson disclosed.

The ECP is currently in deliberations to address the situation and ensure compliance with its directives on symbol changes.

“If the trend of symbol alterations persists, the ECP might have no option but to delay elections in those constituencies,” cautioned the spokesperson.

As the PTI takes legal recourse for symbol changes, concerns loom over potential election delays despite that the election schedule 2024 has been prepared.

Candidates linked to former Prime Minister Imran Khan have sought legal intervention after being designated independent symbols, sparking discussions during an ECP meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
