ECP Suspends Disqualification, Restores Murad Saeed Senate Membership

Islamabad: (Web Desk)- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reinstated the Senate membership of Murad Saeed after suspending its earlier notification that had declared his disqualification and de-notification from the Upper House.

The decision was taken during the hearing of a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Jalal Khan regarding the general Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During proceedings, the petitioner argued that under constitutional provisions, a legislator who has not formally taken oath cannot be disqualified. He contended that the ECP’s earlier ruling was legally incorrect and requested corrective action.

After hearing initial arguments, the ECP suspended its previous disqualification order, thereby restoring Murad Saeed’s Senate membership until a final verdict is issued in the case.

The petitioner also requested the commission to halt the by-election schedule for the vacant Senate seat, which had been announced following the earlier disqualification.
