ECP Rejects Political Party Criticism and Resignation Demand

Conforms to apex court verdict on allocating reserved seats to PTI,
Islamabad(Mudassar Iqbal);ECP Rejects Political Party Criticism and Resignation Demand, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday announced to implementation of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) verdict on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reserved seats.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja presided over a meeting of ECP members on Friday.
ECP’s Stance:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has strongly condemned and rejected the continuous criticism from a political party and their demand for resignation ¹. The ECP stated that it will continue to work in accordance with the law and the constitution without considering any kind of pressure ¹.
Implementation of SC Verdict:
The ECP has decided to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict on the reserved seats case . The ECP will identify any obstacles in the implementation of the decision and refer to the Supreme Court for further guidance if needed.
Rejection of Misinterpretation:
The ECP has also rejected the notion that it misinterpreted the Supreme Court’s decision ¹. The ECP stated that it did not declare PTI’s intra-party election as valid, and the decision was upheld in various forums.
PTI Demands Chief Election Commissioner’s Resignation
Symbol Withdrawal:
The ECP withdrew the symbol of the ‘bat’ under Section 215 of the Elections Act due to the invalidity of PTI’s intra-party elections ¹. The ECP considered this a logical consequence of the invalidity ¹.
Independent Candidates:
The ECP allowed 41 candidates to participate in the election as independent candidates since they did not mention PTI in their nomination papers ¹. These candidates later joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) within three days of winning the election,
