Dr Muzzammil Thakur writes to UK PM over Indian war crimes in Kashmir

Your government professes to have moral clarity when it comes to Ukraine, yet the people of Kashmir see your meeting with Modi as a betrayal of your own ethics

LONDON (News Desk):  In a letter to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the President of World Kashmir Freedom Movement Dr Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur reminded the British Prime Minister of India’s continued illegal occupation of Jammu & Kashmir and the ongoing war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, genocide, settler colonisation, and demographic change.

Dr Thakur reminded Starmer that while he was travelling to Mumbai with a British trade delegation to meet Narender Modi, the Indian Prime Minister wished his ‘friend’ Vladimir Putin a happy birthday.

“Your government professes to have moral clarity when it comes to Ukraine, yet the people of Kashmir see your meeting with Modi as a betrayal of your own ethics.

While you condemn Russia, Modi has built a closer alliance with them, but you ignore the glaring fact that India’s occupation of Kashmir predates Russia’s actions by more than 75 years.

Reports already suggest you will not question the Indian Prime Minister on his disregard of sanctions against Russia, the result of which is India facing sanctions from the United States for continuing the purchase of Russian oil.

If that is the case, not only will you be guilty of hypocrisy, but culpable for India’s actions against Ukraine. Furthermore, your trade deals will directly contribute to the annihilation of Kashmir and its people that India has openly called for, and encourage them in their expansionist plans in the subcontinent.

This will inevitably make the region even more volatile and unsafe, as we saw in May 2025 in India’s misadventure against Pakistan.”

Dr. Thakur urged the British government to break India’s cycle of violence or face the necessity to support Kashmiri resistance against a fascist neo-colonial expansionist regime intent on the eradication of the Kashmiri and Muslim identity, as the UK supports the Ukrainian resistance against their aggressor.
