Dr. Muhammad Yunus appointed as first Vice-Chancellor for Bhimber university

The President Azad Kashmir Chancellor of the University of Bhimber has appointed Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus Javed, as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bhimber on the recommendations of the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Brigadier (Retired) Professor Dr. Yunus Javed is a highly experienced, distinguished education expert, recipient of the Military Star of Excellence, internationally recognized representative of the State of Pakistan, and a four-decade-long contributor to global research and education.

Dr. Yunus Javed, a renowned figure in the academic world, has been involved in various academic institutions, notably as a founding member of Pakistan’s premier university, NUST (National University of Sciences and Technology). His vast experience includes serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) and later as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kotli (UoK). His exceptional leadership qualities were demonstrated during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor at HITEC University Taxila.

Born on November 3, 1958, in the picturesque village of Dhamka, Post Office Kangra, Tehsil Barnala, District Bhimber, Azad Kashmir, Brigadier Yunus Javed achieved significant milestones throughout his educational journey. He completed his schooling at Government Primary School Kangra and later pursued his higher education, culminating in a PhD in Computing and Information Technology from the University of Dundee, Scotland, in 1991.

During his illustrious career, Brigadier Yunus Javed served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at NUST, contributing six years, followed by four years as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at HITEC Taxila. His remarkable services also include leadership roles in various institutions, such as Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the University of Kotli (UoK), where he served as Vice-Chancellor.

Brigadier Yunus Javed’s academic journey began at the Government Primary School Kangra, and he continued to excel throughout his educational career. Achieving first positions in all examinations from Grade 1 to FSc, he earned scholarships for his higher education. His academic excellence led him to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering from NUST in 1982.

Furthermore, he obtained a scholarship from the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs, Government of Pakistan, for pursuing Electrical Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. Brigadier Yunus Javed’s commitment to education continued with post-graduation and a Ph.D. in Communication Augmented Communication Systems from the University of Dundee, Scotland, in 1991.

His exceptional journey in the Pakistan Army began as a commissioned officer in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) after which he continued to serve in engineering organizations until September 1987. Brigadier Yunus Javed played a vital role during this period, serving as Workshop Officer and heading technical inspection teams on various assignments.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, Brigadier Yunus Javed was honored as the first Ph.D. officer in EME in 1991. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the formation of the charter for NUST in 1993, serving as a founding member of the team. His dedication to academia and research continued for 25 years at NUST, where he worked as a faculty member at the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (CE&ME).
