Dr. Aasim Yusuf Leaves Adiala Jail Without Examining Imran Khan

Dr. Aasim Yusuf, the personal physician of former prime minister Imran Khan, left Adiala Jail on Tuesday without conducting a medical examination, according to sources from within the jail, as reported by Aaj News.

Upon arriving at the jail, Dr. Aasim faced complications as he could not present proper identification. Security officials asked for his credentials from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, which he failed to provide. Due to this, the doctor left the premises without informing the staff.

Dr. Aasim had arrived to examine Imran Khan, who is currently serving a jail sentence. The PTI had previously called off a planned protest after receiving assurances from the government that Khan would be given access to a medical examination.

On Monday night, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan released a video statement announcing the postponement of the protest, originally scheduled for Tuesday, after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the government’s assurance regarding the medical examination.

Last week, PTI had planned a protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on October 15, the same day the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit is being held in the capital, to demand Imran Khan’s release. The SCO, a major economic and security bloc, will see high-level participation from member states including China, Russia, and India, with around 900 delegations and 200 international media representatives expected to cover the event.
