Diamond Divas and Rose Rebels Triumph in Dr. Shah’s 5-A-Side Hockey Tournament

Karachi – The Dr. Shah’s 5-A-Side Girls Hockey Tournament, organized by the KHA Women’s Wing in collaboration with the Karachi Hockey Association (KHA), kicked off with an exciting start at the Mini Astro Turf Hockey Ground of the Olympian Hanif Khan & Dr. Junaid Ali Shah Sports Complex, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi.

In the opening match, Diamond Divas triumphed over Pearl Pioneers with a dominant 7-0 victory. Mahnoor and Sidra both netted three goals each, while Hamna Nadeem contributed a goal to secure the win.

The second match saw Rose Rebels emerge victorious, defeating Queen Bees 2-0. Maheen and Sehrish each scored a goal, leading their team to a well-earned victory.

The tournament features five teams competing in a series of league matches. The opening ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Syed Imran Ali Shah, who praised the KHA Women’s Wing for its dedication to promoting women’s hockey and for providing a safe and encouraging environment for players.

The event was also attended by several dignitaries, including Mrs. Asma Ali Shah, President of the KHA Women’s Wing, Secretary Batool Kazim, Dr. Arif Hafeez, Sagheer Hussain, KHA Coach, SSP (R) Ejazuddin, Javed Iqbal, Joint Secretary of KHA, and District Sports Officer Hajra Nawab, who all showed their support for the initiative.

Dr. Imran Ali Shah highlighted the importance of women’s involvement in sports, acknowledging the efforts of Syed Junaid Ali Shah and Madam Shehla Raza in making this event a reality. He also assured continued support to the KHA’s initiatives, emphasizing the need to further develop women’s hockey in Pakistan.

Mrs. Asma Ali Shah, President of the KHA Women’s Wing, expressed her commitment to supporting and encouraging young female hockey players. She distributed cash prizes to regular attendees, demonstrating her dedication to the cause.

In a show of continued support, Dr. Syed Imran Ali Shah also provided sponsorship for women’s hockey, distributed playing shirts among the players and officials, and announced plans to provide hockey sticks and balls to further develop the sport.

The Secretary of the KHA Women’s Wing, Batool Kazim, shed light on the challenges faced by girls in pursuing sports. She emphasized the importance of offering a supportive environment for them to thrive. Batool noted that girls from various districts are receiving training under qualified coaches and are actively participating in the tournament. The KHA aims to uplift the Women’s Wing and encourage greater involvement in hockey, offering a training facility that is always open to aspiring players.

The tournament has been a resounding success thus far, with all teams displaying excellent skill and sportsmanship. Spectators are enjoying the exciting matches, and the event is expected to continue drawing large crowds until its conclusion.

The opening day matches were supervised by umpires Rizwan Khan and Zafeer Ahmed, ensuring fair play throughout the competition.
