DI Khan Operation: Security Forces Kill Three Fitna al-Khawarij Terrorists

The action in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came just one day after eight militants were killed in the same district, security sources say.

DI Khan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – A new DI Khan operation has ended with the killing of three Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists, security sources said on Monday. The action took place in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Security forces moved in after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. Sources described it as an intelligence-based operation, or IBO.

According to the sources, the operation is part of a wider campaign. Forces are continuing to act against militants across the province under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision.

Security sources also claimed that these operations are working well. They said the actions are weakening terrorist networks in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This is the second such action in Dera Ismail Khan in two days. On Sunday, security forces killed eight terrorists in another IBO in the same district.

Sources said that operation was also based on intelligence reports. Officials described the eight killed as India-backed terrorists.

Three of the eight were key commanders of Fitna al-Khawarij, according to the same sources. Their deaths were described as a notable gain for the forces.

The two actions back to back show that security teams are staying active in the area. They also show that intelligence sharing is playing a big part in these missions.

The latest DI Khan operation comes at a very tense time for the country. Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in cross-border terrorist incidents since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been hit the hardest. Both provinces have faced regular attacks on security forces and civilians.

New figures show how serious the problem has become. Pakistan recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years during September 2026.

The data comes from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, or PICSS. It is an independent think tank in Islamabad that tracks anti-state violence.

PICSS counted 225 militant attacks across the country in September. In August, the number was 199, which means attacks rose by 13 percent.

This was also the third month in a row that militant attacks went up. The trend is a major worry for officials and security analysts.

Islamabad has often asked Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan land to attack Pakistan. It says the Afghan Taliban authorities have not taken proper action against such groups.

Kabul does not agree with this view and has disputed the claim. The two sides have held several rounds of talks, but the gap between them remains.

The presence of militant groups on Afghan soil is still the main point of dispute. Until it is settled, tension along the border is likely to continue.

For now, security forces say they will keep up their pressure on militants. Another DI Khan operation or similar action in nearby areas cannot be ruled out, as per the approach described by the sources.
