Dhaka: Sheikh Hasina Sentenced to Five Years in Corruption Case
The report of the investigative commission into the 2009 Bangladesh mutiny has been released.
Dhaka: Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina Wajed, has been sentenced to five years in prison in a corruption case.
According to Bangladeshi media, Sheikh Hasina’s sister received a seven-year prison sentence, while her niece and British MP Tulip Siddiq were each sentenced to two years.
Other accused individuals in the case were given five-year prison terms, charged with using influence to acquire plots in the Dhaka Diplomatic Area.
Previously, Sheikh Hasina had also been sentenced in two separate cases, including a death sentence and 21 years in prison.
Report on 2009 Bangladesh Mutiny
Separately, the report of the investigative commission into the 2009 Bangladesh mutiny has been released.
The commission stated that Sheikh Hasina had ordered the killing of military officers during the 2009 mutiny, which resulted in the deaths of 74 people, including several senior army officers. Former Member of Parliament Fazl Noor Taposh acted as a central coordinator.

The investigation also suggested the involvement of foreign powers, with the commission head claiming that India played a role in destabilizing Bangladesh and weakening its military.
Bangladesh’s acting head, Mohammad Yunus, welcomed the commission’s report, stating that it brought the truth to light.
