Devotees gather for 982nd Urs in Lahore

Lahore – (Special Correspondent/Web desk) The 982nd Urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Ali Hajveri, lovingly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh, began in Lahore on Wednesday, drawing thousands of devotees from across the country. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar inaugurated the three-day event by placing the traditional chador at the saint’s shrine and offering Fateha. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Provincial Minister for Food and Housing Bilal Yasin were also present at the ceremony

The Urs attracts thousands of devotees each year from Punjab and other provinces. Pilgrims gather at Data Darbar to pay homage to the revered Sufi saint, Hazrat Ali Hajveri.

To ensure the smooth and safe proceedings of the Urs, authorities have placed strict security arrangements around the shrine.

To accommodate the large number of visitors and encourage participation, the Lahore district administration has declared Friday, August 15, a public holiday in connection with the Urs.
