Despair Over Rising Utility Bills Leads Daska Woman to Suicide
Cases of Razia and Fida Hussain Underscore the Severe Burden on Vulnerable Families

A 50-year-old widow named Razia took her own life after receiving utility bills amounting to 25,000 rupees.
The bills comprised Rs 16,000 for gas and Rs 9,000 for electricity, exacerbating her already challenging financial circumstances.
The tragic incident occurred in Daska, Punjab.
Razia, who struggled to provide for her family through a small grain-roasting business, was facing increasing hardship as her three sons were unemployed.
The situation became intolerable when utility company representatives came to disconnect her electricity due to the unpaid bills. Overwhelmed by despair, she ingested a poisonous substance, resulting in her untimely death.
This incident mirrors a recent case in Faisalabad, where a man named Fida Hussain also ended his life due to the burden of high electricity and gas bills totaling 28,300 rupees.
These tragedies illustrate the significant toll that escalating utility costs are having on vulnerable individuals, highlighting a worsening crisis that is pushing many into despair.
