Dense Karachi fog disrupts flights, lowers visibility significantly
Dense fog engulfs Karachi, reducing visibility, disrupting flights and traffic, while high humidity and air pollution worsen city conditions.
Karachi – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – On Thursday morning, dense fog covered different parts of Karachi, reducing visibility in some areas to just 50 meters and causing major disruptions for commuters and flights.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that severe fog at Jinnah International Airport brought visibility down to 50 meters, forcing the temporary suspension of flight operations. Areas such as Malir, Scheme 33, and surrounding neighborhoods were also heavily affected.
At least 10 flights faced delays, while two alternate flights managed to depart on schedule. The Doha–Karachi flight QR 610 and Jeddah–Karachi flight F 3829 were diverted to Muscat, and another flight from Jeddah had to circle over the Arabian Sea, waiting for clearance to land. Karachi–Islamabad flights could not take off, while Karachi–Istanbul flights TK 709 and PC 130 remained on hold. Flights to Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Lahore, and Riyadh were similarly delayed.
Weather experts attributed the fog to an unusual rise in humidity caused by a shift in wind direction. Humidity levels across Karachi surged between 85% and 95%, with the PMD reporting the current level at 93%.
According to officials, the fog is likely to persist as light winds combined with high moisture content in the air are preventing it from clearing quickly. Citizens have been advised to drive carefully, as fog and road slipperiness pose serious risks.
The foggy conditions are not limited to Karachi, as similar weather is expected in Hyderabad, Sujawal, Gharo, Badin, Hub, Bela, Othal, and Jamshoro.

Meanwhile, air pollution in Karachi has worsened, with the city ranked as the second most polluted city (currently third) in the world. The air quality index has reached a hazardous level of 218 AQI, raising health concerns for residents.
The Met Office reported that over the next 24 hours, Karachi’s maximum temperature will remain between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. Cold and dry weather is expected to continue.
