Deadly Bus Accidents in Afghanistan Leave Dozens Injured as Authorities Respond and Investigate

Ghazni, Afghanistan-(Special Correspondent / Web Desk)- Two separate bus accidents in central Afghanistan have tragically killed at least 52 people and injured 68 more, officials reported Thursday.

The incidents occurred on a major highway connecting Kabul and Kandahar late Wednesday. Provincial information head Hamidullah Nisar confirmed the collisions, noting that exact numbers for each accident are still unclear.

“There is a possibility the numbers could rise,” Nisar said, adding that some injured passengers were in critical condition and transferred to Kabul for further treatment. Victims included children, women, and elderly people.

In one accident near Shahbaz village, a bus collided with a fuel tanker. The other crash happened in Andar district, where a bus struck a truck, Nisar explained.

Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid expressed “deep regret” over the tragedies and announced that authorities would conduct a full investigation.

Rescue teams worked through the morning to clear wreckage at both sites. Witnesses described scenes of broken glass, scattered personal belongings, and visible injuries among passengers.

One survivor, Khadim, recalled being jolted awake by the crash. After regaining consciousness, he saw multiple injured people under and around the vehicles, with chaos and blood everywhere.
