New Zealand’s Mitchell Tops ICC Batting Rankings After India Heroics
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell has claimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings after a sensational performance in the three-match series against India, which New Zealand won 2-1 to secure their first-ever ODI series triumph in India. Mitchell finished the series with a career-best 137 in the final match at Indore and was named Player of the Series, scoring a total of 352 runs—the highest by a visiting batter in a three-match series in India. His previous scores of 84 and an unbeaten 131 in the opening games helped him reach 845 rating points, the second-highest ever by a Kiwi after Glenn Turner’s 854 in 1983.
New Zealand Script Historic ODI Series Win in India
Mitchell briefly held the No. 1 position in November before Rohit Sharma claimed it, but he now surpasses Virat Kohli by 50 points. Fellow Kiwis Glenn Phillips and Will Young also achieved career-best rankings, while India’s K.L. Rahul entered the top 10. In other updates, Michael Bracewell climbed across batting, bowling, and all-rounder lists, and Indian seamers Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh gained significant rankings. In T20I rankings, Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran rose to 15th, Johnson Charles to 51st, and spinners Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman moved to second and 14th positions, respectively.
