National weightlifter Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt, who claimed the first gold medal for Pakistan in the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games 2022, received an overwhelming reception on his return to the country.
Nooh was enthusiastically welcomed upon his return to Pakistan by his supporters, family, and representatives of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), who received the gold medalist at the Islamabad International Airport after he competed in the Islamic Games.
24-year-old weightlifter created history as he set the Commonwealth Games record by lifting a staggering 405 kg and won a gold medal for country.
Speaking on occasion, the star athlete extended his gratitude to Director General PSB Colonel (R) Asif Zaman for coming to the airport and expressed his hope that the PSB will continue to support the athletes.
“It’s heartening to see [the] PSB chief coming over to receive us,” he said. “We were welcomed like a cricket team and it was a confidence booster for us. I hope PSB will continue supporting us for future events,” he continued.
