Pakistan Customs Foil Gold Smuggling at Karachi Airport
KARACHI: (Web Desk) – Pakistan Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle gold at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, seizing 100 tolas of gold and USD 11,900 from passengers traveling to Dubai and Istanbul.
According to details, customs officials conducted multiple operations at the airport, during which 10 gold bars weighing 100 tolas were recovered along with foreign currency. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) confirmed that the total value of the seized gold and cash amounts to Rs 50.68 million.
FBR Data Shows Rising Tax Burden
Customs authorities revealed that the passengers had concealed the gold bars inside the battery compartments of mobile phones in an attempt to evade detection.
Cases have been registered against the accused under the Customs Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated.
