Customs Officials Accused of Extortion, Harassment in Balochistan

Balochistan High Court Takes Action Against Customs Officials' Harassment

Quetta-Ghulam Yaseen)-A Bilateral Bench of the Balochistan High Court, comprising Justices Abdullah Baloch and Iqbal Ahmed Kasi, heard a constitutional petition filed by the All Pakistan Dry Fruits Importers and Exporters Association. The court summoned top officials, including the Federal Secretary Home, FBR Islamabad Collector Customs Quetta, and Collector Intelligence Balochistan, to appear personally.

The petitioners alleged that customs officials stop transport vehicles at various checkpoints, demand bribes, and file baseless FIRs against importers who refuse to pay. This results in significant financial losses due to spoiled goods and prolonged legal battles.

The court observed that consignments cleared and sealed at the Customs House Quetta should not be questioned elsewhere in Pakistan. The Hon’ble Bench expressed concern over the lack of accountability among customs officials committing such illegal acts.

Deputy Attorney General Naseer Ahmed Bangalzai and Deputy Collector NLC Dar Rai Post Masma Azka Zafar appeared in court. The Bench noted that customs officials’ previous comments were insufficient to resolve the issue.

The court ordered the summoned officials to appear personally on the next hearing date and inform the court about the pending matters. A notice was also issued to the Attorney General’s Office to ensure attendance.
