Crackdown on Gas Theft Intensifies: 34 Connections Disconnected, Rs 1.7 Million Fine Imposed

In Lahore, the regional team took decisive action by disconnecting 6 connections found to be illegally using gas.

LAHORE: In a continued effort to combat gas pilferage, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) conducted raids across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad, resulting in the disconnection of 34 illegal connections and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 1.7 million.

In Lahore, the regional team took decisive action by disconnecting 6 connections found to be illegally using gas, while lodging 1 FIR against a gas thief. Additionally, fines amounting to Rs 0.3 million were imposed on perpetrators of gas theft.

Similar operations were conducted in other regions, with Multan witnessing the disconnection of 3 connections and the booking of Rs 0.8 million against gas theft cases. Rawalpindi saw 2 connections disconnected, with Rs 0.1 million booked against gas theft cases.

The crackdown extended to Bahawalpur, where 2 connections utilizing compressors were disconnected, further reinforcing the campaign against gas pilferage.

In Mardan, the regional team disconnected 8 connections involved in illegal gas usage, resulting in the lodging of 2 FIRs against gas thieves. Additionally, fines amounting to Rs 0.3 million were imposed.

Faisalabad’s regional team disconnected 4 connections engaged in illegal gas usage, while imposing fines totaling Rs 45 thousand against gas theft cases. Gujranwala witnessed the disconnection of 3 connections for illegal gas usage and 2 for compressor use, with fines of Rs 0.26 million imposed.

Gujrat saw 3 connections disconnected for illegal gas usage, along with fines totaling Rs 2,900 imposed. In Sahiwal, 1 connection was disconnected for illegal gas usage, further reinforcing the crackdown on gas pilferage.

The concerted efforts of SNGPL and law enforcement authorities underscore the commitment to ensuring the fair and lawful distribution of gas resources, protecting both consumers and the national exchequer from losses due to theft.
