Crackdown against corrupt officers in USC

The Federal Minister of Industry has directed that they Investigations should be completed on priority basis and the inquiry report should be submitted within seven days.

Multan: Crackdown against corrupt officers in USC, several officers including regional manager Bahawalpur and ASM Islamabad. Utility Store Corporation has started action against the officers involved in corruption on the direction of Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain and the regional manager of Utility Store Corporation Bahawalpur Malik Saeed Ahmed Khan along with Faisalabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Sukkur zones. Several officers and officials have been suspended.

In the press release issued by the Ministry of Industry and Production, it is said that complaints of misconduct of the officers were received and special teams have been formed to investigate them. The Federal Minister of Industry has directed that they Investigations should be completed on priority basis and the inquiry report should be submitted within seven days. Meanwhile, an FIR has also been filed against ASM Ghulam Farid of Utility Store Corporation Islamabad on the charge of black marketing of flour and ghee.

The Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan (USCP)  is a Pakistani state-owned enterprise that operates chain stores throughout the country that provide basic commodities to the general public at prices which are lower than the open market because the government subsidizes them. It is the largest chain-store entity in the country with 5,939 locations.

Utility Stores Corporation is governed by a board of directors and headed by a managing director.

Quality assurance

Public business organizations or the public can ask courts in Pakistan to hold hearings if they have concerns about the quality of items being sold at the stores.
