Court indicts Imran & Bushra Bibi in Toshakhana reference
The Toshakhana case revolves around the alleged misuse of Imran Khan’s premiership from 2018 to 2022.
In a significant development, an accountability court has officially indicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana reference filed against them by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The decision was made during a hearing held at Adiala Jail, where the former Prime Minister is currently incarcerated. A five-member special prosecution team from the anti-graft watchdog meticulously reviewed the reference against the prominent political figures.
Accountability court Judge Muhammad Bashir presided over the hearing of the Toshakhana and £190 million cases within the prison premises. The courtroom was attended by NAB prosecutor Muzaffar Abbasi and his team, along with Khan’s legal representatives, Latif Khosa and Umair Niazi.
The indictment comes after a brief deferment, as Bushra Bibi failed to appear before the court during the previous session. However, during today’s proceedings, she was provided with a copy of the £190 million case, ensuring a fair and transparent legal process.
In parallel, Imran Khan has taken a stand against his disqualification in the Toshakhana case. A five-member larger bench, headed by Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, is set to address the petitions challenging the disqualification on January 12 (Friday). The bench comprises eminent jurists, including Justice Shams Mehmood, Justice Shahid Karim, Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry, and Justice Jawad Hassan.
The Toshakhana case revolves around the alleged misuse of Imran Khan’s premiership from 2018 to 2022. The accusations suggest that gifts received during official visits abroad, valued at over Rs140 million, were improperly acquired and sold for substantial profits. Notable among these gifts were wristwatches, including a “Master Graff limited edition” valued at 85 million Pakistani rupees.
