Cooking Oil and Ghee Prices Surge in Pakistan Amid Global Palm Oil Hike

The prices of cooking oil and ghee in Pakistan have seen a significant spike in recent weeks, adding further strain to the already high cost of living. Reports suggest that prices have surged by Rs40 to Rs50 per kilogram, primarily driven by a notable increase in global palm oil prices.

Over the past two months, palm oil prices have jumped from $900 to $1,200 per ton, marking a sharp $300 increase.

This rise is attributed to various global market influences, leading local producers to adjust their pricing to account for the higher raw material costs.

Producers are also pushing for tax relief, with current taxes set at Rs100 per kilogram on ghee and oil, in a bid to keep prices more affordable for consumers.
