COAS Gen Asim asserts state cannot bear repeated flood losses

The displaced families expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Army’s timely intervention.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has underscored the urgent need for long-term flood protection measures, stressing that Pakistan cannot afford to lose precious lives and properties to floods every year.

The Army Chief visited Kasur Sector and the Flood Relief Camp in Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan, on Saturday to review the prevailing flood situation. He was received by Corps Commanders of Lahore and Multan Corps upon arrival.

During the visit, he was accompanied by the Chief Secretary Punjab and senior civil officials to ensure coordinated relief efforts between the Pakistan Army and local administration.

“State cannot afford yearly losses”

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS was given a detailed briefing on rescue and relief operations underway in Kasur and Multan.

While interacting with civil administration, he emphasized the importance of good governance, inclusive and people-centric progress, and swift infrastructural development.

“The state cannot afford the loss of precious lives and properties every year,” the Army Chief said, urging expedited steps to protect vulnerable populations from recurring disasters.

Commitment to people’s welfare

The COAS also highlighted the significance of civil-military cooperation in overcoming challenges faced by flood-affected communities. He reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s unwavering support for all initiatives aimed at public welfare and rehabilitation.

During interactions with flood affectees who were successfully evacuated, he assured them of continued assistance in resettlement. The displaced families expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Army’s timely intervention.

Troops’ dedication praised

Field Marshal Munir also met troops, Rescue 1122 personnel, and police officials involved in the operations. He lauded their high morale, readiness, and dedication to serving the nation despite difficult circumstances.

He praised their round-the-clock efforts, carried out in close coordination with civil administration, to deliver timely aid to those in need.

The Army Chief later conducted an aerial reconnaissance of flood-hit areas along Lahore–Kasur and Multan–Jalalpur Pirwala axes to personally assess the scale of destruction and ongoing relief activities.
